Hey all, I didn’t expect this next album listenfest to come so soon but DAMN! There are so many good albums coming out.

On to the music;

Coheed and Cambria – Year of the Black Rainbow

I have to admit right off the bat, I f’ing love Coheed and Cambria. I own every CD every graphic novel released, tv shirts, etc. So one of my favorite bands ever.

This is the 5th album from Coheed and Cambria schedules to be released April 13, 2010 (already pre-ordered the deluxe edition with the 352–page novel). After a couple listens throught the whole album I’m left thinking, OH YA! this is Coheed!

This album rocks!, strong killer vocals, wild screaming guitar licks and a very epic and grand feel to everything. It’s a bit more melodic than past albums but I think that’s what the band is going so this time about.

There is nothing left to say, this album to me = summer! Get it now!

Asher Roth – Seared Foie Gras with Quince and Cranberry (Mixtape)

Asherfront-300x300

Asher Roth, I’m not sure why but people either love him, hate him or play just ignore him. Well I’m telling you if you don’t know him, you should. Even pickup his last CD Asleep In the Bread Isle for some quality rhymes and beats. Asher is almost always compared to Eminem as he’s white and he raps with a similar voice inflection. I’m not sure if that comparison helps him or hurts him.

This is a mixtape so the beats are all from existing that songs that you might already know but the flow is all Asher. His style is great, timing, cadance and rhythem are stellar on this album. Where is album is weak is in the lyrics. There is little variation of subject matter you’re garanteed that each song will make reference to him smoking weed or him getting laid. Which by this album is starting to be a tired theme. I think it’s this that’s keeping him from blowing up. In general the album is good but there are a few throw away tracks.

Pick it up if you’re bored and like hearing old beats with new words.

Barenaked Ladies – All in Good Time

Allingoodtimefrontcover

I’ve never really been a big fan of Barenaked Ladies, I’ve never owned one of their CDs or ever had one of their albums on my iPod. I’m not sure why, I’ve always enjoyed their singles. Not pasionately like most Canadians but as songs I knew all the words to and would sing along with everyone else at the bar.

This is the first Barenaken Ladies album without the founding member Steven Page, if that matters to anyone.

It’s pop-y, melodic, with nice harmonies and clean guitars. There is nothing edgy or in your face about anything. It’s all very layed back and sweet with nothing really standing out to me. Your typical BNL album I guess, non offensive and decent work day Canadian pop-sorta trying to rock background music. Yes, there is some cowbell.
